Academic Programs

Lake-Sumter State College offers a wide variety of programs to meet the needs of the communities of Lake and Sumter Counties.

A number of College Credit Certificates (CCC) are available and provide targeted skills or knowledge within a college credential. CCCs are typically embedded in Associate in Science (AS) degree programs, enabling the student to earn the certificate while also meeting requirements of the AS degree.

The Associate in Science (AS) degrees are specialized programs that prepare each student to enter into a career after approximately two years of college. Most courses are focused on the career field. AS degrees do not have guaranteed transfer to universities; however, AS degrees will provide students the opportunity to enter Lake-Sumter State College's Bachelor of Applied Science in Leadership degree program.

The Associate in Arts (AA) degree program prepares students for a baccalaureate degree program. Lake-Sumter State College has organized the AA degree into pathways to help students successfully complete common program prerequisite courses prior to pursuit of a baccalaureate degree.

NEW DEGREE PROGRAM STARTING FALL 2026: The Specialized Associate in Arts Transfer (SAAT) degree is designed to prepare students for transfer to a designated Florida state university to complete a bachelor’s degree in a specified major. Lake-Sumter State College currently offers two SAAT degrees with the University of Central Florida (UCF)—Biology and Health Sciences—which guarantee admission to both the university and the identified major.

Advanced Technical Certificate (ATC) programs are designed to provide students who with targeted, workforce‑ready skills beyond the two-year degree level in an accelerated format. A student who completes either the AA or AS degree program is eligible to pursue an ATC.

Lake-Sumter State College offers a baccalaureate degree in Leadership that prepares each student for career advancement within any type of organization. Baccalaureate courses are offered in such a way as to accommodate the schedule of a student who works full-time. The College also offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN) degree, a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education degree, and a Bachelor of Science in Exceptional Student Education degree.

All degrees have a general education requirement.

LSSC also offers Continuing Education (aka non-credit) programs.
